A native of the Ukraine, Trubach was a painter, graphic artist, writer, teacher, lecturer, and civic activist, who immigrated with his family to New York before the outbreak of WWI. He received a scholarship to the National Academy of Design in New York at age 14, and at 19, won a Pulitzer Award and studied in Europe. Upon his return, Serge worked as a WPA artist in New York City. After WWII, he became a teacher at the New England School of Art in Boston.

He moved his young family to Sausalito in 1953 where he remained for the rest of his life. Trubach taught at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, served on the Board of Directors of the Sausalito Art Festival, ran for Sausalito City Council, and was active in the local art community.

In the 1970s, he spent time at Fisherman’s Wharf drawing caricatures, and also created caricatures for the MarinScope newspaper. He continued to paint, teach, and exhibit his work until his death in 1979. Noteworthy collectors of his art included Herb Caen, Joseph Eichler, Mortimer Fleishhacker and the Haas family.

The exhibition features 22 pieces, including abstracts, photos and ephemera on loan from his daughter Gabrielle.
